Dead Disco Drivers

As I promised. More interviews will come. And here you are, the first one has already arrived! I had the chance to interview Jeroen who forms together with his friend Simon, the Dead Disco Drivers. They’re 19 and 18 years of age and both live in Kortrijk, Belgium. Enjoy the interview and don’t forget to check out two of their tracks.
Interview:
1. So guys! To start off with an original question Tell me. How did you get in the electronic music scene? And how did you get into it together?
Well that second question is quite easy. We are neighbours, we went to the same school, we’re friends and during these years we developed the same taste for music. Simon grew up in a very musical family. Together we took our first steps in the music world. I did piano lessons for 4 years, Simon did 11 or 12, I’m not sure. Anyway you can say we have a musical background. right?
While I quited doing piano, Simon kept improving his skills with keyboards, pianos and such. And I started experimenting with DJing about 2 years ago. Now one year back we both really fell in love with electro/techno and … what you think? Dead Disco Drivers was born. Then with support from friends it didn’t take long before we made our first track.
2. So … you have already done some small gigs I suppose?
Yeah! Small… like 200 people or something. We’re not so big yet.
3. You will! So I think I can ask this. What do you guys personally love about playing for a crowd?
Hands going up and down! OOOORGASME!
4. For sure! And you guys get an orgasme from whom?
Dude! Carmen Electra!!!
5. Understandable! But I mean who’re you guys’ big idols?
Wow, that’s a big list. But of course … Daft Punk! Their synths, their way to build up a song … they’re just so unique live … their creativity … I mean there’re not many who can bring up their live performance to that level … if there are.
But we’ve got like 1000s of idols. Vitalic, Boys Noize, Justice, Surkin, Crookers, Bloody Beetroots, Brodinski, shameboy, The Subs, Soulwax and of course Goose (They’re also from Kortrijk)!
6. This might be a hard question for new djs/producers like you guys. But who would be for Dead Disco Drivers the ‘perfect match’ to produce a track with?
Yeah, that’s pretty hard to tell. If I really need to choose I would say … MSTRKRFT. Simon says … haha … okay Simon thinks Shameboy would be a perfect match. We’d WANT to be a perfect match with so many artists.
7. One night with a willing Carmen Electra or playing with along side Daft Punk?
Playing with Daft Punk in the famous piramid in Paris while Carmen is giving a blowj*b!!!
ORGASMMMEE!!!
Beatiful end!
Thanks for the interview guys! I wish you the best of luck for your further music career! Hope to see you on a gig soon!

Something Fresh!

BEENS is a group of 4 friends who dj and produce together since the beginning of ‘08. I heard their track in a liveset and I think it was slamming, so here’s the share! They try to mix all of their influences with eachother, and I must say they do a great job! They also throw mad parties in their hometown! Check them out if you’re in the neighbourhood!
DJ Donna Summer

A while ago i got this big ass mail from DJ Donna Summer, with all kinds of edits and tracks he made to share with us. So I selected the 2 I find the best and come share them with you. DJ Donna Summer has a rather unique sound. He makes very variated music so I cant really put a genre on his sound, but as long as it sounds down i’m very up for it! Also i would like to make a little promotion for his label, Cockrockdisco and his blog, Birthdaypartyberlin.

PHASE02 on RADIO1

Listen up! PHASE02.org has been announced in the BBC RADIO 1’s show In New DJs We Trust. Kissy Sell Out apparently played the number one aUtOdiDakT in the Metallic Remix competition of ONEMOREDISCO! Yea that’s pretty important! Because it seems that they thought this crazy competition was launched by us and it’s not! We’re just helping our dear friend Sam Baker from OneMoreDisco to spread the word. Although Kissy is right! This is what we like to see on the blogs. Motivate all the kick ass young talented producers to compete in contests like this!!! Crazy new tracks were created and the competitors have been given the chance to get their names out there!
Well… we just wanted to set this right! OneMoreDisco rocks and this lovely idea came out the head of Sam who’s really doing great with his blog. Give him some love!!!
But anyway, they called us a “lovely blog” … What do you think? And okay, this competition maybe wasn’t our idea this time, but it definitely motivated us to wind up these kind of initiatives in the future.
Here’s a little secret to end this post with. We have crazy plans for PHASE02 coming up!!! All I can say is, different colors will reach your eyes when browsing our blog … but that’s just a small part of our plans. Stay tuned and once again. Respect Kissy! Respect OneMoreDisco! Respect remix Competitions!

Exclusive: Nicolas Chenard

This is something I wanted to post for a long time now. I’ve known Nicolas Chenard for a while now, and I know he produces sick techno tunes. since I’ve known him I was always fond of his music. I got to know him a while ago and I had a bunch of stuff to post from him. So beware, here you have an interview and a fresh baked exclusive track! (By the way, you might want to listen to his fresh new genius track at the bottom while reading.)
Interview:
1. So, tell me Nicolas, before we get all serious, how’s life treating you?
Nicolas: Oh, thank you for asking me. Right now? I’m feeling ok, having a cup of ginseng tea and listening to some geekish c-64 video game music. Life? Listening to my music, you may understand how life treats me.
2. How and when did you get in touch with the electronic music scene?
Nicolas: I began composing music at the age of twelve (around 1990) using the great Amiga-500, a very limited computer with poor sampling and synthesis abilities, but it rocked at that time. I’m still using it as a matter of fact. Its used in “Do Not Educate” (contest).
But Lets go back in 1988. I was a ten-years-old pupil, acid house/garage house was breaking the ground, and i was living in a quit hot suburb. There teaching solfege wasn’t easy, so the teacher decided to change the school program and teach us about electronic music culture instead. We were listening to records such as S-Express, Confetti’s or Lil’Louis’French kiss (those were the House tracks that were on the radio at that time in France) or even Jean michelle jarre’s Revolution! Then she explained us how House music, Acid and New Beat was born, the way it was produced (samples, vocoders, samplers, sound synthesis and beat boxes).
Can u imagine you, as a kid, listening to you teacher saying: “… then this Belgian DJ put the 45 rpm records on 33 rpm, and the crowd loved the new track, without noticing the mistake… new beat was born”
Heaven in school? I dont’t know. But a door opened to the world of electronic music production, for sure!
3. What is your top 5 of great electronic artists?
Nicolas: Sorry, I don’t woship any god of music, there are so many great artists, famous or not. I can’t tell whether X or Y is my favorite. Each artist is different to others, each artist is unique. If not, they aren’t artists, but copies. But as a response to your question I would say the prototype of a top artist is an artist with his own sound, built on his personality and able to transmit feelings into seconds.
4. What do u like about playing live?
Nicolas: Having sex with hundreds of people at the same time! That’s how it feels! Haha, seriously, playing live allows you to work directly on your tracks, change it or even improvise, noticing on how the crowd reacts to it. In fact, that’s why it’s similar to sex: people in front of you feel your music, and you understand what to do to give them even more feelings. Its a real exchange between the artist and the crowd. In a bed such a behaviour would lead to an orgasm, on a party it leads to the birth of energy. The energy thats makes you move and shout. So, giving people energy is the best part of playing live, for me.
5. How did you end up with Absolut Freak (label)?
Nicolas: Thats simple, I’ll do it fast. Frederic was sent a techno track (Thriller Express) I produced years ago. This made us meet and create Absolut Freak Records.
6. Any rumors around you can tell us about?
Nicolas: I heard a cataclysm will occur and destroy about 75% of us in the next 15 years. Transmit this to 75 of our contacts in 15 minutes, or you won’t be in the 25% of survivors!!!
I also heard a rumor saying that producers believing their techno or house tracks could interest Chenard should get in touch with him. I don’t really know what that means, but hey! It’s just a rumor!
7. Tell me something about the Do Not Educate contest. Any information you wanna spreak about a release?
Nicolas: I was really surprised how remixers all around the planet had shown interest for the “Do Not Educate” remix contest. Lots of great and coherent remixes, really! This contest allowed very skilled (but still quite unknown) producers to get in touch with us, which was also the point of this remix contest. We had to find the killer remix (and we have it!), but also found new talented artists! And it worked, I’m currently on musical projects with some of them. About the release… I know by mails its highly wanted, it’s coming! keep an eye on it!!!
8. Name your two favourite tracks at this moment?
Nicolas: My first favorite track? the sound a modern common human is making on everyday’s life… Walking in the street or in public places, i’m listening to you. I’m listening how you’re having fun in supermarkets, stressing with your job and talking about very interesting thing such as the lastest reality tv show. Such an interesting music you make! Thank you people, you’re one of my first source of inspiration. Can’t you hear the techno kick-drum beating out conformism? I’m trying to.
So, anyway, at this moment, I would like to listen to:
Pink Floyd - Welcome to the machine
Polysics - Kaja kaja goo
Now i have to dive back into the musical production
Thank you and have a nice day!

So here’s the track. Notice its not for download as it is exclusive! Be sure to check out the Nicolas Chenard Myspace for more music!
Metallica remix competition

One More Disco had the great idea to launch a remix competition with Master Of Puppets by Metallica. They received really amazing entries and I had to luck to be part of the judging.
The goal was to use the the gitar intro in the first minute of the song and create a sweet banging track out of it. That goal has been reached for sure! The top3 has been selected and prizes have been given out.
1st place = DJ Mehdi- Lucky Boy at Night (signed by DJ Mehdi) - CD Album + A post on One More Disco (and other popular music blogs)
2nd place = MixMag Erol Alkan Disco 2006 CD + A post on One More Disco (and other popular music blogs)
3rd place = A post on One More Disco (and other popular music blogs)
I suppose we’re one of those ‘popular’ music blogs.

The third place goes to OldSchoolReunion. I don’t know much about these guy(s) but I know they’re from the UK and they rock big time! Check out their amazing remix which was slightly different from all the other entries and that’s why they deserve this 3rd place. Enjoy the remix!
Metallica - Master Of Puppets (Oldschoolreunion Remix)

Second place is for PHANTOM’s Golden AXE or PHANTOM’s Revenge I’m not sure about that! I think they’re both the same guy though. Anyway … this awesome trashed up dirty remix really pleased the judges, including me! I love this one and the way he kept some original sounds of the intro. It totally works, the beautiful comforting sound before the explosion of pounding dirty electro!
Metallica - Master Of Puppets (The Phantom’s Golden Axe Remix)

And the first place, the golden medal goes to aUtOdiDakT!!! He really impressed us by the way he kept the original melody and mixed this to … a track … that makes you bounce! A track that’s full of variation and definately deserve the first place in this competition. Damn this remix gonna make a crowd go crazy, I’m pretty sure of that! You can get the 320 version here, so all the DJs outthere, I recommend to try this out on your next gig! Congratz to this remix hero from Germany!!!
